HDW Colloquium: Access Exploit

Join us for Emerging Voices Postdoctoral Fellow Setsuko Yokoyama's presentation on her book project, "Access Exploit"

Access Exploit investigates how technical access to previously secluded cultures often gives the illusion of immediacy. When coupled with haughtiness—as Robert Frost liked to call it—the sense of immediacy could mask the inaccessibility of local mores, embolden problematic misapprehensions, and feed into the popularity of the work in question. Drawing on various examples such as Marie Kondo's 2019 Netflix show and Frost's 1915 book of poetry North of BostonAccess Exploit unlocks the mechanism of sociocultural in/accessibility.
